THE MESSENGER

It is the world of digital revolution, and we are surrounded by a variety of mediums of communication and information. The primary source that we associate ourselves with, viz. The Newspapers and the Television News channels seem to have arrogated a different role than being the Messengers or the guides to the outer world for an ordinary citizen.
Recent episodes bring to fore the credibility which the media was associated few years back and the recent wave of skepticism that prevails among the masses. Few highlighted ones that were in controversy for long time were the statements those of – rural development minister Jairam Ramesh on toilets in India; PCI Chairman Markandey Katju on intelligence of Indians; Pakistan Minister Rehman Malik on 26/11 issue; RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat on Indian marital system; Asaram Bapu on Delhi gang rape and the likes.
The first two examples are of the media quoting the government officials and the last two are examples of private people. The one similarity that all of them bear is that everyone claims that they have been misquoted and taken out of context. Thus, the reader is left wondering and confused as to what exactly is the truth and what the context was, cause not everyone has the privilege of verifying it online.
Another negative fallout is, that the speakers get a chance to flee by blaming it on the media and get away with what they said in the event even when media was cent percent right in quoting them.
The point here is not who is right or who is wrong, the only point is the correctness or credibility of the news, be it print or television. In the race for TRP, media houses are tempted to sensationalize, distort, hide or exaggerate facts that suit their needs. This tendency amounts to abuse of freedom of speech and faith of the readers entrusted in them.
The role of ‘The Messenger’ here is to present facts without distorting them and in an unbiased manner. The readers and viewers understand this and the credibility of the medium rises, in turn raising the TRP and the value of the paper. Thus, hitting two goals in a single bullet.
Media should take cue and instead of abusing its power make itself a powerful tool and make the freedom of its speech more meaningful and trustworthy.

WHO IS TO BLAME ???
......... the plight of Indian Women

Here we come to reflecting.....

The very fabric of the Indian Society. The very hard core engraving that has occurred over centuries is still hard for us to erase. The concepts are such that as the girl takes birth, her marriage is the ultimate aim for her parents, however educated and whichever strata of society they belong to.
Our society, is still afraid to open the gates to liberal thoughts of equality, the Patriarchy begins from the hme, enters the education system, the workplace, the roads....everywhere the women sex is denied breathing a free air.

THE blame heads straight to women sex themselves, also says Simon De Beauvoir (a feminist writer), women who have constantly failed to challenge and recognize the real motives of the hypo critic patriarchal dwellings, even after centuries. They seemingly escape by putting the blame on the other sex and calling themselves victims.

It is really difficult to understand, who in their sane minds like to be dominated and remote controlled (It was a different situation few decades ago, but today even in educated families with earning women being tortured, is totally baffling).
Why do we not see rebellion from the Women Community?
Do they fear losing societal support or getting abandoned, so much so that, they even tolerate torture & violence?

It surprises me that, a daily wage earner lady, toils the day, handles the kids, feeds the family and still gets beaten up. But stills gets on with the next to the face the same plight. Its really a cruel and painful sight the bruised bold faces.

We drifted from the topic a bit, but the fact that restrictions and choices for a girls' life are far too determined by the other sex and they allow that to happen to them, is to be PONDERED upon...there are definitely historical and societal mindsets, which need t be changed...

Women are given all sorts of advice to dress-up, watch for timings, carry security gear or learn self-defence.....and then our main topic of contention the DOWRY that the family has to shell out, to part from their blood relation....
AREN’T ALL THESE REQUIREMENTS THEMSELVES A DEFEAT OF THE CONSTITUTIONAL AND SOCIAL EQUALITY OUR FOREFATHERS ENVISAGED....

The pressing point – IT IS WOMEN WHO ARE RESPONSIBLE, BECAUSE;
She took it silently, putting a brave face, even when she turmoiled from inside...
She cried from within, but never expressed louder, for fear of the world...
She saved the dignities of her near and dear ones, but engulfed the poison dying
 everyday...
She never hit back, even if got burnt in return...
She ignored the eve teasers, for avoiding the scene it will create...
She failed to teach her Sons, but never stopped preaching her daughters for hours...
She never praised a fellow woman for being brave, even if she secretly wished she could be like her...

TIME TO WAKE UP OFF THE SLUMBER- LONG DUE-----JAAGO !!!
